So I’ve been thinking about going travelling for a long time. Not just the few weeks in Europe I usually do, not these weekends away to various cities, obviously they are all awesome, and I would recommend any one who reads this should get away more than they currently do! But an extended trip, with no plan just a backpack, a camera and probably more savings than I will ever be able to accumulate ever again!
So exciting news, on Wednesday I booked my flights, and yesterday I handed my notice in! So it’s official, I’m doing it, no backing out now! This excites me tremendously and also scares the shit out of me. I have just left a stable job, which even though I moan about sometimes, I do enjoy. I’m planning to spend the next year, on my own without friends or family, in a bunch of countries where I can’t speak the language.
So what’s plan, I know I said before ‘no plan’ but I do have a rough one. I’m not very good at planning, and when I do plan things, I end up changing them and making it up as I go along. The plan is to get to Australia, hopefully for good times, almost definitely for work (I imagine I will be pretty skint by the time I get there). I’m going to get there via China. I have booked myself onto a 25 day tour of China (The Dragon Trip) which looks amazing, Im not sure if I can get a panda back through customs, but I reckon its worth a try!
After China I fly from Hong Kong to Tokyo, Japan. From here I have a 2 week pass on the Shinkansen, Japans famous rail network, and I will be arriving for Cherry Blossom season! If you google ‘Hanami‘ that is what I am hoping to expect, it looks blissful!
After my fortnight in Japan I fly to Bangkok in Thailand… this is as far as my plan goes, from here on out there is no plan. There are countries I would like to visit and things I would like to see, but no plan of when and how to see them, all that I will work out when I’m there. Just so long as I work my way down through Β South East Asia, I will make it to Australia eventually!
I’m sure this will be no holiday, no doubt at times things will be hard, but I hope above it all this is the adventure I have been looking for! (Sorry, I watched the new Star Wars last night!) I will try to keep you updated about new plans and the places I am going, but mainly, just expect a load of photos!
Have you visited any of these places? Any tips of places you’d recommend? Drop a comment below! π
